My poem question!


1. Explain each literary device you used in your poem (You should have 5 different examples).
I used personification as an example "yelling hailing and shouting". In fact the Canadian gooses cannot really yelling, I used this device to make the poem more animated. I want to use the life- Canadian gooses to disclose the marsh is not only a marsh, It is also a lively nestle of the nature. The example of the metaphor in this poem is " angels are coming". I attempted to make the goose become angels and come back to their heaven-marsh. I think this way can make audience thought of the marsh deeply. The example of simile and hyperbole is " like the heavy cloud,without any burdens", for this , I was trying to use these two devices to make the color of the background more dark and heavy, because of this, the sight on my poem will be easy to lift the gooses and the marsh. Except some important description, I also used some alliteration just like the "following the first fallers".

The literary device is the use or way of every genres that can use them to describe the setting character or other important part of the literary. It also can make the literary more elegant.

b. What is the example from your poem?
Personification, simile, Alliteration, Metaphor, imagery and hyperbole.

c. Why did you use it (Create mood? Create tone? Create rhythm? Create meaning?)Use 3-5 sentences to explain the example.
I chose those literary devices because of they are really useful to create my own stage. I used it to create a situation that is from sadness to the happiness. The create meaning is about the feeling of people when they saw a marsh. I like this landscape and chose this to write because when I saw the picture I felt soft and comfortable.

2. Using 12-15 sentences, explain the insightful and mature meaning of your poem.THINK DEEP AND THINK DEEPER!
The sight that I wants to present is a marsh in the dark red setting sun. The Canadian gooses are flying back to their home and a crow of birds one by one and falling down. I think my poem was developed by the gooses. At the first time, these group of gooses are flying across the dark forests and saw a very bright sight after they went out. They know where the water is because of the water is their home- the marsh. They were shouting because of they are happy to go back home, go back to the lively marsh. On the other hand, the marsh was lonely enough because he always standing alone in this static sight. I used personification to reveal the sadness of the marsh and the happiness starting when the marsh saw his guests are coming back. I thought of I am one of the gooses and use gooses' view to see the exciting marsh. At that time, I wrote the" burning water", This is a evidence of how the marsh excited. Than is '' swallowed the scalding sun", I used this because I want to describe the embrace between the marsh and its birds when all of the gooses are falling of to the water. The final three lines are talking about the shape and the action of the water when the wind blowing through the marsh, I wanted to show a very soft and brittle feeling just like the wind is going to blow away the marsh. When I wrote this stanza, I thought of a notable movie called " Gone With the Wind".

3. What is your poem about?
My poem is about a sight just like the picture I had posted. A lonely marsh felt gloomy and somber because of he bored for his place, but when the lives were coming back, this place resumed its active. He knew that his companions went back so the pessimist become optimist.

4. How do you represent the Canadian landscape in your poem? Use 3-5 sentences.
I represent it by the view above the sky, the literary devices and the creates of the marsh. I used some point that just like the gooses are surrounding the marsh. The voices of the birds can distribute the importance of the marsh for the natural area of Canada.

5. Imagine you are an explorer and sent this poem to your King or Queen, how would they feel about the Canadian landscape?
In a confidence thought, I might think they won't obscure my poem. In fact, I think my poem also has some meager part such as the imagery. I think I need to put more feeling of imagery to my marsh. I will do well on my"Cherry Blossom" of next poem and sufficient my lacking parts of this poem.

My Landscape Poem!


Title:" The Marsh"

They knew the water resources,

penetrate the forest- darkness,

yelling!

awakes the scorching sky,

following the first fallers,

the black white wavy,

angels are coming;

the burning water!

like the heavy cloud,

without any burdens,

they saw him!

hailing and shouting!

swallowed the red world,

he smiled.

Looked at him!

current eyes,

soil body,

reed clothes,

drifting and flowing,

with the wind,

he is gone.

An Alliance with the Huron Empire




1. What is an alliance? What does this word mean?
Alliance is just like Serbia and Russia, they are the alliance country I had learnt. These two countries are have very deep relationship in the long long times ago. They had fight together with their both enemy Roma Kingdom. Now, their relationship are continue to work on the export and introduction. My own explanation is two countries or group of people cooperating on the same democracy agreement, just like two groups combined. The dictionary meaning of alliance is a group of countries or political parties that are formally united and working together because they have similar aims or a relationship in which two countries, political parties, or organizations work together for some purpose.

2. Why would Champlain want to form an alliance with the Hurons?
There might be a lot of benefits for him. At that time, the Hurons were fighting with Iroquois. Champlain cooperate with Algonquin of Hurons and they became an alliance and resist Iroquois as a group. Champlain brought 300 solders to the rivers of Iroquois. By the Hurons' direction, they had discovered the Lake Champlain. After that, Champlain met a number of Iroquois in Ticonderoga, He had killed the two leaders of the group. From that time, the war between France and Iroquois was happened during the next hundred years.

3. This is a picture of Champlain and his Huron allies on the left fighting the Iroquois. This is one of the earliest images of Europeans and First Nations people interacting.

a. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentences. Look carefully at the picture.

I saw a clear separation between the Huron and Iroquois by a solder stand in the center of the picture. On the left and right hand corner I saw two group of boats sitting beside the land. The peoples might on the right might be the Iroquois, because I saw most of the people of this group
died and reduced. The other evidence that can make sure those are the Iroquois is the solder is using a gun to fire to his enemy to the right way with a group of people on the left.

b. Do you think this is a realistic image of the situation? Explain why or why not in 5-8 sentences.
I think so, because the history didn't remember the whole course about their fighting. There weren't a photographers take a picture when they were fighting, but nobody said it cannot be. People at this period can create thousand pictures of their waring. I believe that the war between Iroquois and France just like this picture, because even the fact is not like this, this picture still shows their fighting and history clearly. Champlain helped Huron to fight with Iroquois is a no arguing fact.


4. The Hurons had many economic advantages because of their geographic location and territory. They were located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, where the fishing was excellent.

a. Find a map of Georgian Bay. Explain where this bay is.
The map direct the name of the bay and we can see it obviously. In the map, there is a large area of the land in the three top corners. The bay is located in the bottom left hand corner beside the coast lands.
b. Translate the word bay.
The bay means a special landscape that make the part of the coast land hold and surround the water of sea.

5 . Find a photograph of Georgian Bay that you like. Explain why you like it in 3-5 sentences.
The vegetation of this region includes mixed forests, meadows, and fields. The sandy soil was perfect for planting corn, squash, pumpkins, and beans.
The picture shows the bay in a bright afternoon. The sun shine illuminated the bay in the sea as brilliant as a gold land. The water is a mirror that reveals the azure sky. The gray blue clouds are shining above the sun. This sight reminds me of the cold frozen aurora of north. I think this place is as beautiful as palace of gods.
6. Take a look at this piece of Canadian Art called "Stormy Weather". The artist is Frederick Varley. He illustrated the stormy weather of Georgian Bay.
a. How do you feel when you see this painting? Explain in 5-8 sentences. Tell me why you feel that way.
I felt very soft and warm. I think this painting of stormy weather is different from the real gloom and dark storm. In this real effect, the climate might be terrible as people's mood, but this painting has not serious and sadly atmosphere of the storm in my mind. I think the reason is Frederick used some bright and shallow colors on this design, so there were not any pessimist feeling around this painting. I think Frederick is a really creative and thoughtful artistic that can paint a severe weather day like this. I like the tree swing in the wind, it gives me a very intense feeling of optimism, just like everything is flowing across to me and the warm storming brings me a huge embrace.
7. This is a poem by A.J.M Smith. It was put together with this image on a past provincial exam.
a. When you read this poem, how do you feel about the Canadian landscape? Explain in 10-12 sentences. Think deep and be creative.
After I finished to read this poem, I comprehend why this poem had chose in the provincial exam. The words of each lines of this poem is very elegant. In the first stanza I had read contains cedar and fir these two words. When I saw these two, I was thought of this poem might aground a pessimist theme because cedar and fir only can be growing in the winter and there are nothing survive in this cold sad season. Than I continue to read and found a bay in the fifth line. At that time, I was thought of Frederick Varley's stormy painting. I think this poem used so many image that makes me felt similarly when I resee the painting. The bitter spray snap at the whirling sky just like Frederick's concept. The poet use personification, metaphor and imagery to describe a picture of spray chasing the flowing sky and trying to swallow it. I think this part shows the poet eager to catch his own dream and reveals his love to the freedom of that restricted society. I was budged to the stupendous thought of the poet when I read to the final part. The feeling seem to when I saw the warm storm, just like the transform from the sad to happy. It talked about the wind broke the branch of the pine tree just like the beauty broken by strength, but it also said it still strong in the last line. That is the most deeply part that affected me a lot. I think it shows the persistence to the dream of the poet and a exertion to the future.
8. What did you learn in this lesson? Explain in 5-8 sentences.
I learnt how the war between Iroquois and France developed and the condition and the environment. Than I learnt the Georgian Bay's landscape and a important part of the geography.The most achievement I have got is I knew a famous artist and saw and negotiate his notable painting and got a precious chance to practice one of the poem of the provincial exam. By now, I 'd say I learnt a lot by this class. I knew our class is going to over at June or July, so I want to tell Ms Chan that I hope to learn more interesting class by typing for the Canadian Study. I knew it is hard to bear or use brain, but I really improved a lot by this helpful class. Tank you Ms Chan, I am waiting for your next article!

THE FOUNDING OF NEW FRANCE!!

1. Find a map of the St. Lawrence River. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentence.


This map shows me a general condition of St. Lawrence River. It describes the area drained by this river and its tributaries. By read this map, we can know where the place of St. Lawrence River can make gulf. If you see the map carefully, you can see some red lines separate the U.S.A and Canada in a obvious way. The yellow top where can shows the Ontario of Iroquois. This part is a expansion of the divided area.

2. Find a photograph of the St. Lawrence River you like. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentences.

This picture is my favorite one of all the photographs. It really defines the beautiful sights in my visibility. This sight gives me a exquisite feeling just like in the fairy's situation. I think the cloud can give me a feeling as light as a drifting current penetrating me. I think the author of this design might be really hard working that can create this nice picture. This cloud has a special name in Chinese-"The scorching cloud". It happens when the sitting sun access to the level of the azure sea, the solar illuminates the sea and changes the lights become a amazing colored. This picture really affects me a lot.

3. Why did Champlain choose to use a river for transportation? Explain in 3-5 sentences.

think Champlain had experienced some different exploration before he decided to use river. Actually, those are the same ways. Champlain know how to transport goods on the water, even it is a river. In the development between two countries might be hard because the river is a line that divided these two, but although people wanted to go further, they have to exceed their ranges of the transportation. Champlain is a great guy because he knew how to create and discover the transportation, that is to don't only around a single way to develop things. Champlain choose the St. Lawrence River to transport is a real example of the history of transport to abroad. The improvement is not depending on the way what you use, it is depending on you wants to make effort and progress or not.

4. Find a picture of Champlain's habitation at Quebec. Explain what you see in 5-8 sentences.

This house is the habitation of Champlain in Quebec. At the first time I saw this house, it reminds me of a movie I had saw in Beijing. It is about a inventor that creates a number of monsters. This inventors house is seem to the house in the picture. I saw this house was consist of three rooms on the opposite way. I cannot see a gate but there is a small yard on the right of the house with a special styled tower. There is some smoke erupt out of the house just like a secret factory.

5. The fort was a natural fort because Quebec had towering cliffs.

a.Find a picture of towering cliffs in Quebec. Search in Google using "Quebec and towering cliffs". b. Why are the cliffs a natural fort? Explain in 3-5 sentences.

Cliffs are made by the covalent bonds of the natural area. Some of them are cause by the sea wave, actually they are the land or mountains under or beside the sea. They looks like the fort but they are the products of the nature. People called them "natural fort" might because they are the fort of wild animals' nestle. They protect them and conceal them to resist their enemies to assume them.

6 what did you learn today? Explain in 5-8 sentences.
I learnt the geography of the St. Lawrence River and how beautiful the river is. Than I knew the structure of the habitation of Champlain. By the way, I think the way we use to respond the question also can be an important point that we have learnt, because we improved our own abilities when we search or guess what the information is for the questions that Ms Chan provided to us. That would be a good idea to teach us how to learning Canadian study by our-selves. I think this way is use for every student that can make them increase their English and thoughts. I will continue to use this good way to study and challenge myself.


Bonus1. There is a moat around Champlain's habitation. Why is that important?
The moat are the rivers around the habitation. They use protect the habitation and forbid the enemy come into the habitation.
