REFLECTION

1. What have you learned since September in Canadian Studies? (Or since you started to take the class)
First of all, I'd like to say I am happy to join this class. Canadian study not only expanded my history knowledge but also brought me some fun. By now, I still remember the time when I work with my group and this class. We got a lot of achievement during our working time. Viking ship and puppet show can both evidence it. In this class, students are always laughing because when Ms Chan told us to do some work, it actually is tell us to make some fun at the same time, except doing essays, but I really bask with my friends by lesson this subject. I know the laughing time is sparse, even if we need to hard working, so I am so cherish the time I spend during this class. I am glad to learn Canadian study with my dear friends , teachers and my-self.

2. What is the most memorable lesson you remember? (if you weren't here, maybe at another school)

The most memorable lesson I remembered is the puppet show lesson. Ms Chan told us to make a puppet show for the exploration. We intended the show to be a astounding and exciting comedy. Cabot is easy to be a funny character because he had never knew he found the land is not Asia until he died. That is a oxymoron, Cabot found New found land is a part of Asia but he didn't found Asia. I think that would be a good idea of our play. This class taught me how to control myself and cooperate with others. My abilities are better and better.

3. Think about your life as a student here since September. Have you changed? How?

I had thought of how does this class changed my life. My answer is Yes, it really changed. During the last winter vacation, I also had a nice time with my partner on drama class. This class can make me return to that happy time. I think life is like a drama, everybody is the protagonist of their own play. For us, the other people like the foil character, they can make my play more beautiful or ugly. I also considered why we should make a effort when we have a young age. Step by step, I can understand this truth by daily class. If we hard working by now, we can feel better when we matured. As a student, I think the classroom is my stage and my play will dance at this place. Some people are think future will happen at tomorrow, but actually there is no differences between future and right now. If you start to spread the seeds of watermelon, the result will be also a watermelon. That is why height level student never worried about their achievement after the examination, because of they know that the result must equal the effort they had made. If we can do well on each lesson, now will become the future.

4. What is your goal for yourself by June? What is your plan to study?
My goal is to try my best and get a A on the provincial exam. My plan of the provincial exam of June would be a weekly practicing. I think the essay for English ten is hard to me, so I intended to read a essay from text books at least weekly. Than I will also try to do the exam of the past. The more experiences I have, the better percent I can get on the exam. I belief if I start to challenge my self now, I will catch more chances. The most important part is to do it in fact and trust my self.

5. What are you most proud of in school since September? Have you done your best?

I am proud of my self at this point. I am not a modesty person, but I won't tell lies at this time. I always do my best to finish my work. Even if sometimes I took some mistake on the spelling, but I always revise them on time by the teacher's help. I promise I will continue to do my best on my next challenge. I won't make the people who support me lose their hope.

Bonus
1. Is there anything else you want to tell me or reflect about?

I want to tell you my way to learn Canadian study. During my school time, I got a new group to work with. This is a decision that I made for progress. After the winter vacation, I started to decide work with Nina, Rena and Jessie. The reason of I want to work with my new team member is only for challenge my self. By abroad to Canada, I learnt a lot. I think if I still work with my original team, it is hard to improve myself. My original members are all my best friends but they also stand on a same level as me. I can play with them and compare with them but by these I cannot get any thing except a balance mood, so I hope to cooperate with some people who better than me. If I do my work like this, I can summarize their good ways to learning class. Not only Canadian study, I think this way can use on my each subject and than I will better and better.

My Essay! Fight!

"Exploration can create conflict and misunderstanding"

Exploration discovered people's history and created the culture of people. It is a great action of the country in the past, but do you know? Exploration can also brings us war, famish and death. In the ancient phase, people thought about how to develop there countries and increase their power. Exploration not only brought success to people, but also disclosed a ugly face of human. It made conflict and misunderstanding because people cannot reject the benefit in their eyes, so they think assume is the only way that can sufficient their thought. Exploration had caused the wave of the war between native people of Canada and Europeans, there were some clear experience of heroes, such as Cabot, Cartier and Colombo.

Cabot is a great explorer of Europe, he discovered new found land and other important resources. The next is neither land nor food, Cabot found a group of people that be called "Indian", that is the native people who live at the north America. For develop Europe, Cabot needed to get this place. New found land is the root of their power and the goal of this exploration. European requires to have this area, but native people are all strong and freedom. They were trying to resist and break the restriction of the sailors. Because of this, they all died and that is the result of assume one's country. Cabot brought their achievement to the kin of the Europe and built their powerful kingdom. By these knowledge, we know exploration not always give us happy end. This is a example that the explorer cause a tragedy.

Cartier decided to find new lands before the last exploration. He also got a good achievements by travel to the New found land, but all the good direction has a opposite way. There is also a conflict happened during this great venture. In the 1630s, Furs of Iroquois began to decline, French got a kind of special fur from Iroquois. They used beaver's skin to make hats. In the history of Canada, it was called "fur trade". The conflict the conflict pitted the nations of the Iroquois Confederation. Some of the Iroquois refuse to sell their beavers to French and against they backed. The wars were extremely brutal and are considered one of the bloodiest series of conflicts in the history of North America. It also determined the exploration is not a simple game that to find a new land. The risk is in everywhere during this journey.

Colombo is the first person who opened the gate of America. He adored Marco Polo from a long times and he had dreamed to find some gold. He had asked the kin of Portugal to get some money but failed. Than he was trying to get a boat by himself but he was found by the kin. Than because of his persistence, he was permitted to discover the new land and Finally he discovered a large land that more valuable than the gold. Unfortunately, his amazing active cause a number of people began to affect this area, migrations were like a hungered wolf come into these country. They recalled Marco's saying that " Gold is the most valuable thing of this world... ...If someone get gold, he will be come almighty! Even can make the spirit goes to the heaven. "The killers and effectors, can gold really make them go to the heaven?

Exploration had caused wave of the war between native people of Canada and Europeans, there were some clear experiences of heroes, such as Cabot, Cartier and Marco Polo. There are many unknown resources haven't been discovered yet. Sometimes we cannot touch the road in front of us. The future is like a foggy weather, we don't know who is going to welcome us at the destination, or there is no destination in this world. These three man are all built the great achievement of the history of exploration, but at the same time, they also brought the next emergency period to people. In every one's life, people cannot delete the conflict and misunderstanding completely. Only thing that we can make sure, that is we can choose our own ways to create our life. Find out the right way that we can figure them out and face our future actively.

truth and pretend

1. If the maps around you showed the existence of the Northwest Passage, would you believe it? Why?
I would say probably yes, because we have correct direction now. The information of this period are all evidenced and investigated by the scientist for a long time. explorers discovered the passage again and again, finally we can got a refined passage information. If I was in a ancient phase, I may think about the information is true or not, because of we didn't have good technology in the past, so there might have a lot of pretended information just like flat earth.

2. If you were John Cabot and someone told you the Northwest Passage didn't exist. What would you say? What would you feel? How would you react?
I would feel very angry and aggressive. I would say:" just you don't know, it doesn't mean the passage didn't exist!" I think if I am Cabot, I will be more persistent because of this person's speech. I think we cannot only say our dream, if that our dream won't become a fact. We need to make more efforts in our life, the more ways we attempt, the nearer path to our dream. As Cabot, I think the speech make my stronger and stronger.

3. Find a map by Humphrey Gilbert from 1582. What do you see in the picture? Explain.
I saw a quaint shaped earth on the map. I think it might be a very old aged map of the past because the earth is round, it can not be a shape of heart. I think at that time , the distance of the fact is very far from people.

4. Why did the Northwest Passage suit the goals (agenda) of the European explorers and monarchs?
I think because of we didn't have high level technology and inventions, so people not always use their brain to develop their countries. At that period, people need explorers and monarchs to increase the power of the kingdom. The exploration is the best way for people to improve their countries. People just need to found the new lands and named it and dominate it. There will be more people can live in this country.

5. Feedback loops help us to see reality as a system. Can you think of an example of a feedback loop from your own life? Look at page 225 of your textbook to help you.
Maybe it is like drawing in my life. I am not really hard working on it , but I cannot leave it. If I lose my way to draw, I will stop progressing. Drawing is my hobby and also my dream, so I cannot let it go, I will keep it.

6. What did you learn so far about explorers and the colonization of Canada?
I knew some of the explorer of Canadian history. That is the most important knowledge of this term. I think explorers are important to European and its history. If they didn't have any achievements, we won't study Canadian study any more! So, almost, I think we should grateful them and their history, their successful affected the phase of the northwest and also increased the places of the map of Canada.
